They were shinny. I like that they have weight to them with a great balance I can grip it with confidence. Because each blade is one piece all the way threw. Sharp as shit and they instantly demand respect. I didn t pay an arm and leg for them but I got something that I know will last a good while. Fantastic for the price Fantastic knife! Good weight. Nice handling. Very sharp and keeps a good edge so far. I have not honed or sharpened it yet. I keep a brush with oil on hand to lightly brush it with oil to keep it from rusting. Sure to last as far as I can see. It s leather sheath is very durable. Sharp! Just got this and went on a chopping spree this blade is super sharp it is heavy and makes useing it a dream, I peeled a hand of ginger and the sharpness allowed me to remove just the skin ot looks big but that is what you want when chopping or slicing and you can slice thin with this blade if all of their knives are this good I may be buying the rest of the knives in this line.3 years ago

Great for slicing sourdough So I have a huge bread/cake knife I think the blade is about 15inches. I made the mistake of using that to cut into a fresh sourdough loaf. The knife was way to long, slipped on the delicious crust and I cut myself pretty bad. It was then I realized that I needed a smaller and sturdier knife for bread and my other knife has been relegated to cutting cakes.3 years ago

I can t rate it just now as I just received the knife yesterday and have not actually used it yet. But, from the description and what I have seen, I think my rating will be positive. Great quality, well-designed chef knife:When I opened the box, I was immediately pleased by the design. The wood handle is beautifully crafted and feels great in the hand. At this price-point, I wouldn t have been shocked to find some imperfections in the look and feel, but it appears that it was well made. I am very impressed by the look and feel, it easily rivals my much more expensive knives.The blade is a very nice size and shape. It came very sharp, right out of the box. I was able to use it to chop vegetables immediately and it just slides through anything I put it up against. The thinness of the blade make it effortless to chop, and the slight curve makes it easy to rock back and forth for a great fluid motion. It is very well balanced and the handle design lends itself very well to its intended purpose. It appears that a lot of thought was given to the design, and pairing that with solid craftsmanship built a solid knife.It s a great addition to our kitchen and we find ourselves using it more than any other knife now. Wow! What a knife! This is my new favorite tool. Out of the box, it was wicked sharp. Immediately washed it, oiled it and put it to work. It s weight makes it a great chopper for meats, but it s razor like blade allows you to cut with finesse. Would definitely buy again. Great bargain!5 years ago

Awesome value Super sharp, full Tang. My knife skills stink, however this knife makes it easy. Comfortable in the hand- well balanced. I have used it on bison, beef, pork, bacon, apples, kiwi, tomatoes,even grapes! You just have to remember to wash & dry it right away. I treat it just like my cast iron, oiling after a wash. So maybe a professional chef will have a different opinion, but I think this is awesome. The weight is nice in my hand. The cover is quality. This is a great knife at the price point. I have knives far more expensive than this, but this will be the best knife most people have in their kitchen. It is balanced well, sharp out of the box, and it has a full tang leading to a nice weight. I have not sharpened it yet, so more to follow there, I will update my review at that point. Heavy Duty wanted a butcher knife similar to what she uses, this knife met that criteria. When it arrived the first thing I noticed is that it s heavy, it s definitely sharp, and the price was right. Worth it This is a really nice knife! Really good quality. When washing it I was reading reviews about rust and it’s not a problem as long as you wash it by hand and not a dish washer and actually dry it off.
